Núria Picas, third in the Ultra SkyMarathon Madeira
After starting the season with a victory in the Menorca Trail Camí de Cavalls, today Núria Picas crossed the finishing line of the Ultra SkyMarathon Madeira in third position and with a time of 6 hours and 57 minutes in a very technical and demanding race of 55.6 km and 4121 meters of positive height gain.
The battle to the finish line has been long and hard, with opponents as powerful as Ragna Debats, winner of the race, Emelie Forsberg, in second position, Mira Rai or Hillary Gerardi. The race of the Portuguese archipelago, which is part of the Migu Run Skyrunner World Series, hides a high technical level through forests and cliffs and steps that require grade II climbing in some cases exposed. Therefore, Picas faced one of the most difficult first challenges of the season and with high-level international competitors.
The Catalan runner has dosed forces and has gone from less to more. Starting from Santana and adding almost 1200 m positive in just 7 km the race started with a demanding climb to the highest peak of Madeira, Pico Ruvio, 1861 m, where Núria Picas was placed in the top 10. From here Picas has taken advantage of its strong point, the descents, and in a long descent until the km 35 has climbed positions to be in the podium zone, keeping the third place until crossing the finish line.
“It’s the first great race of the season and to be on this podium is very special, I felt very good and I’m very happy with the result because the level of the rivals was very high and the race was very technical and not very competitive; it’s a good test for the next races, “said Picas.
The next appointment of Núria Picas will be on June 22 in Italy, where the Lavaredo Ultratrail will run, of 120 km and 5800 meters of positive height difference.
