L’Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord més internacional i amb més participants tanca inscripcions
Less than one month from the beginning of the 11th edition, registration has already closed for the five races of the most international Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord, with participants from 51 countries. The town of Ordino is getting ready to host the 2,870 runners who have registered for one of the seven trials, a record figure, once again, since the creation of the event in 2009 with 657 participants.
Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord, more international than ever
Participants from 51 countries will be on the starting line of one of the five races of the Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord, and seven of these countries will be climbing the mountains of Andorra for the first time: Taiwan, Monaco, Morocco, Algeria, Latvia, Colombia and Guadeloupe. During the 11 years of this competition’s history, runners from 78 countries have participated in one of the races. This year, the main countries from which the runners come are Spain, France, Portugal and Japan, in addition to other parts of Europe.
Five races to visit the whole country
The starting shot will be fired at 7 a.m. on Wednesday 17 July with the longest trial, Eufòria, currently in its third year of existence. 143 competitors from 15 countries will confront a 233 km long adventure with a climb of 20,000 metres through the mountains of Andorra. Just 48 hours later, it will be the turn of the main competition, the Ronda dels cims, 170 km long with a climb of 13,500 metres, which has 450 participants from 32 countries. When night falls, on that same Friday will see the start of the Mític (22h), 120 km long with a climb of 9,700 metres, and of theCelestrail (00h), under the moonlight, 83 km long with a climb of 5,000 metres. Both races have 500 participants each, from 34 and 26 countries, respectively. Finally, on the Saturday, 750 participants from 26 countries will set out on the well-established Marató dels cims, 42.5 km long with a climb of 3,000 metres.
Solidarity, a key value
One of the main pillars of the Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord is solidarity. This can be seen, on the one hand, with the donation of €4 that the organization makes for each finisher to one of the three NGOs involved in the race and, on the other hand, with the Solidaritrails promoted around the world. The Solidaritrails, in addition to the one that will take place on the Sunday morning in Ordino, are also held in parallel in other places of the world with the support of development cooperation NGOs. This year there will be Solidaritrails in Bolivia with Cooperand, Nicaragua with Música para vivir, Madagascar with Aigua de Coco and Nepal with Mountaineers for Himalayas.
In Ordino the Solidaritrail will be 10 km long, open and accessible for everyone, and the novelty this year will be the Tamarro, 2.5 km long with a climb of 50 metres, a walk open to everyone but designed for the youngest ones in the family. The participants will have to solve enigmas and pass tests during the route in order to find Tamarro and, at the same time, to learn about mountains and safety. Registration for these two walks is still open.
Finally, some 425 volunteers will do their bit to guarantee that the 11th edition of this sports festival is a resounding success.
